There are five different ways a visitor can go about playing the Old Course: The Daily Ballot, Standby, Direct Application, Hotel & Guest House Tee Times, and Authorised Provider Tee Times. We discuss them below.
• Direct Application: The first way of obtaining a set-in-stone tee time, and the least expensive, is the direct application. The St. Andrews Links Trust accepts tee time requests for the Old Course from groups of up to 8 golfers between late August and early September prior to the year of play. We will advise you on every step of the process, but the application must be electronically sent by you. We are confident that we know all the ins and outs of the application process so as to ensure that you will have the best possible odds in obtaining a tee time for the Old Course.
• Hotel / Guesthouse Tee Times: Many hotels and guesthouses in St. Andrews are allocated tee times by the Links Trust for the following year. Typically, there is a requirement that you stay at the particular hotel or guesthouse that provided the tee time for at least three nights. As with any advance tee time on the Old Course, there is a 2-course policy, including an option of playing the New, Jubilee, Castle, or Strathtyrum courses as well as the Old. These tee time packages typically come at a modest premium.
• Authorised Provider Tee Time Packages: Finally, there are premium Old Course tee time packages available through various Authorised Providers. These packages are generally at the top of the price scale, but offer unparalleled access to the Old Course.
