There are five different ways a visitor can go about playing the Old Course: The Daily Ballot, Standby, Direct Application, Hotel & Guest House Tee Times, and Premium Tee Times. We discuss them below.
• Direct Application: The first way of obtaining a set-in-stone tee time, and the only one which does not involve paying a premium above the normal green fee, is the direct application. The Links trust accepts tee time requests for the Old Course from groups of up to 8 golfers between late August and mid-September prior to the year of play. We will advise you on every step of the process, but the application must be electronically sent by you. We are confident that we know all the ins and outs of the application process so as to ensure that you will have the best possible odds in obtaining a tee time for the Old Course.
• Hotel / Guesthouse Tee Times: Many hotels and guesthouses in St. Andrews are allocated tee times by the Links Trust for the following year. Typically, there is a requirement that you stay at the particular hotel or guesthouse that provided the tee time for at least three nights. As with any advance tee time on the Old Course, there is a 2 course policy, including an option of playing the New, Jubilee, Castle, or Strathtyrum courses as well as the Old. These tee time packages may increase the price of the trip, although not significantly.
• Premium Tee Time Packages: Finally, we are able to offer guaranteed tee times on the Old Course for any week in 2016 through a deluxe accommodation package. These packages come with additional inclusions such as souvenir merchandise and a three-course hotel dinner, and require a stay at either the 5-star Old Course Hotel, the 5-star Fairmont Resort, the 4-star Hotel du Vin, or the 4-star Rusacks Hotel, and at least 3 guaranteed tee times; the Old Course, the Jubilee or New Course, and either Kingsbarns or Carnoustie. These packages are at the top of the price scale, but offer unparalleled access to the Old Course.
